When inspiration does not come to me, I go halfway to meet it.

ABout me

Artistic Journey

I am a Mexican/American visual artist living and working in the Washington DC metropolitan area since 2000.

My works unfold from remembrances of childhood games and play and span multiple media, from digitally manipulated photography to sculpture, installations, drawings, video and prints.

Works in Progress

My recent exploratory series Juxtapositions, is a body of double-sided collages — mixed media on paper, where I layer, play, and build dense, multilayered compositions heavy with color. Most of the works are mounted in handcrafted 3D frames that let both sides be seen at once.

I see each artwork as dual faceted… a singular piece and a series of art that explores a moment in time. I’ve been making these images steadily over the past couple of years and realized I was creating a record of my life. I carry a journal with me and build them from wherever I am. These works overlap my life in America as I carry Mexico with me.

Each collage grows out of daily experience — the details, contradictions, and coincidences of my in-between life — I’m now pulling a group of them together into a quilt-like compilation, so it can hang from the ceiling and be walked around, read from both sides, the way the work asks to be.

My recent exploratory series is a series of double sided collages mounted and displayed perpendicular to the wall in a 3D way. This body of work is mixed media on paper, where I layout, play, and use a lot of color and multilayered compositions.

I am also working on a quilt-like (grid) installation of this collage series.
